Check the FCC ULS License Search page for your new callsign or update. - It's harder to use, but new callsigns will show up there 24 hours before the other pages.
The UALR Callsign Database is another resource you can check.
QRZ.COM is one of the premiere worldwide callbook sites. Contains some DX callsigns.
WM7D's Callsign Lookup is clean and uncluttered. Contains some DX callsigns.
The ARRL is also in the lookup business.
