Registered Nurse
Sheriff's Office/Detention Services Division
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time Day/Evening/Night, Part-time, Temporary
LOCATION: Public Safety Center / Wake County Detention Center / Wake County Annex
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from
an accredited school of nursing.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: At least one year
of nursing experience to include ability to do independent
triage. Correctional experience a plus.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Provide inmates with routine and emergency health care in the Medical Section of the Public Safety Center /
Wake County Detention Annex. Conduct health histories on newly admitted inmates. When necessary, make referrals of inmates
to the staff physician, physician assistant, dentist or mental health professional. Ensure all medication is administered in
accordance with standard operating procedures and as ordered by the authorizing authority.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from
an accredited school of nursing by the National League for Nursing. Correctional experience is a plus, but not required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: At least one year of nursing experience to include ability to do independent triage.
Correctional experience a plus.
HIRING RANGE: $40,700 - $67,800 (Full Time).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the
state of North Carolina. Completion of specific training programs may be required as a condition of
employment in accordance with Health Service Commission Rules. Prior to appointment, must be able to
complete a criminal background check.
