Raleigh Friends Meeting welcomes children and youth to participate in our "First-Day School" (Sunday school) and other youth activities. Here's a typical schedule of youth activities on a Sunday morning:

• 10:00 AM - People of all ages participate together in the first 15 minutes or so of worship in the silence (see descriptions elsewhere on this website). Parents of the very young can choose whether to bring an infant or toddler to this or take them to our downstairs infant/toddler room.
• 10:15 AM - When the youth program leaders indicate that it is time, pre-schoolers go to the downstairs classroom and school-aged children go to the upstairs classrooms. School-aged children begin and end with centering in a circle. 30 minute lessons are followed by an activity and snack.  We also encourage youth to help set out the coffee time snacks as a service to the Meeting.  Once a month, the children play cooperative games.
• 11:00 AM - Young people often re-join the others in the worship room for the announcement period, which is followed by refreshments and unstructured time together.
• 11:30 AM – Childcare is provided for unstructured social time for young people whose parents choose to stay for an adult-oriented "Second Hour" discussion, which usually lasts until about 1 PM.

During the 2012-2013 school year, First Day School will use Mary Edith Hinshaw's Quaker Adventures curriculum to learn about NC's Quaker history beginning with Jesus and continuing through the history of our own meeting.  Each month will have its own theme with each week having an independent topic. By including many Quaker guest speakers, it is designed so the children will feel part of our meeting and the larger Quaker community. For service projects, we'll support the Wilson Temple United Methodist Church’s food pantry and visit a nursing home or our shut-in Friends.
