Important announcement: new sanctioning policy
UPDATE 5/24/2006: Letter to the Division in response to questions about the recent tournament sanctioning announcement. Please contact a board member if you have any questions or concerns.
UPDATE 5/20/2006: All the remaining tournaments for this season have now been unsanctioned. The board is working to develop new sanctioning guidelines that will allow us to comply with the USFA's decision while still allowing all NC clubs a fair opportunity to hold tournaments: these policies will go into effect at the beginning of the 2006-2007 fencing season.
The list of invalidated events can be found here.
The NC Division, in cooperation with the USFA National Office, will effect the following policies immediately:
1)The Division must not sanction any tournaments at which it has reason to believe USFA rules will not be followed.
2)The Division will send a representative from its governing Board to the tournaments it will sanction to ensure that the rules are followed.
These new policies are in response to the issues that were announced at the NC Divisional meeting in March, where it was made public that due to irregularities in many of the events sanctioned by the NC Division, the National office has found that many North Carolina tournament results will be invalidated, and therefore, many ratings awarded throughout the year may be revoked. The National office will be recalculating ratings based upon valid results within the Division, and will be issuing new membership cards to affected members with valid ratings.
The Division has also been mandated to not sanction any event in which the NC Division Board feels that USFA rules will not be followed correctly. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Division Board or the USFA National Office.
Events for the Remaining Year As the Division solidifies its responsibilities as tournament compliance officers, the ability to send a board member to proctor to every tournament is limited. Therefore, in compliance with the new policies of the NC Division, the following tournaments in the remaining season have been unsanctioned.
1. Circuit III, May 20/21, KOS
2. Open Epee, May 23, AAFC – now cancelled
3. Open Saber, June 3, CFC
4. Youth Tournament, June 3, RFC
5. Open Event, Jun 15/16, RFC
6. 3-Weapon Open, June 17/18, KOS
7. 3-Weapon Open, July 15/16, KOS
8. 3-Weapon Open, July 28/29, RFC
Respectfully,
Gerhard V. Guevarra
Chair, North Carolina Division
