Duke University has developed a special working relationship with the
University of Manitoba who is
trying to support the libraries in Kabul, including the Kabul Medical
Institute Library.
In addition to identifying available materials at Duke, we are sharing this
information with the medical library community in case any of you have
duplicate or discarded materials. Please feel free to share this with
clinicians and faculty as well. Information on shipping the materials to
the University of Manitoba appears below.

Thanks
Pat

Medical Books for Afghanistan
The medical students of Canada, spearheaded by the Manitoba Medical
Student's Association, have taken on a class project to restore the book
collection at Kabul Medical Institute Library with the Brandon/Hill core
library of 750 books. The list of books we still need is on an Excel
spreadsheet at http://members.shaw.ca/kabulmedbooks/kabullibrary.htm
(Donations). Duplicates are welcome: they will be placed in circulation at
KMIL, while the rest will be on reserve. Any edition 1994 or later is
acceptable. Tax deductible receipts for books will be issued on request.
Shipping will commence from Winnipeg. We'd like all books here by March 5
if possible. Label "Kabul" and ship to Neil John Maclean Health Sciences
Library, University of Manitoba, 727 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg R3E 3P5,
Canada.

We can also take cash contributions for Kabul Medical Institute Library on
Visa/MC at 1-800-330-8066, 8:30am-4:30pm Central Time, M-F, and issue tax
deductible receipts. Would appreciate it if you could circulate this to
interested people. We may be reached at kabulmedbooks at hotmail.com.
