NRC Librarian
National Resource Center for Child Traumatic Stress
Durham, North Carolina
The National Resource Center for Child Traumatic Stress is seeking
applications from librarians who are interested in working in a dynamic
and fast paced environment. The Resource Center is part of the National
Center for Child Traumatic Stress, jointly coordinated by UCLA and Duke
University to provide leadership for the National Child Traumatic Stress
Network. There are currently 54 centers in the Network throughout the
United States. Funding for the Network is provided by the Center for
Mental Health Services (CMHS) Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration (SAMHSA) U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
through the Congressional Donald J. Cohen National Child Traumatic Stress
Initiative. The mission of the Network is to raise the standard of care
and improve access to services for traumatized children, their families
and communities throughout the United States.
In support of this mission, the NRC Librarian delivers relevant, practical
information and resources to personnel at the Center and members of the
Network, professionals in mental health and child services, child
advocates, and the general public. The Duke University Medical Center
Library provides management and technical services for the NRC Library.
Colleagues in the DUMC Library are available for assistance and
collaboration. The NRC Librarian reports to the Director of the National
Resource Center for Child Traumatic Stress and the Associate Director of
Public Services for the Duke University Medical Center Library. Primary
responsibilities include;
Selecting and acquiring materials in print, audiovisual, and electronic
formats.
Obtaining material produced by Network institutions; reports, manuals,
tool kits, etc.
Organizing the collections and packaging materials for various audiences.
Answering information and reference questions.
Performing database and Internet searches.
Facilitating access to collections and resources.
Creating bibliographies and subject guides.
Providing library content for the web site and input on web page design.
Establishing and maintaining a network of contacts and regular
communication among Network member agencies and their libraries.
Serving on committees and tasks forces.
Participating on the Duke University Medical Center Library management
team.
Representing the Library in professional associations, consortiums, and
networks.
Education
Required:
Master's degree in Library or Information Science.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree or additional masters degree in a social science or
mental health discipline.
Experience
Required: Work experience in an academic, health sciences, or public library.
Library field work or library internships are acceptable.
Preferred: Work experience providing library or information services to mental
health professionals, students in mental health disciplines, or the
general public seeking mental health information and resources.
Specific Skills and Knowledge
Required: Customer-service orientation; excellent organizational and communication
skills; ability to work effectively with diverse clients and colleagues;
ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast paced
environment; initiative to anticipate information needs; flexibility with
assignments; and the ability to set priorities and lead projects.
Preferred:
Knowledge of mental health information resources; experience with library
reference services; experience in creating bibliographies and subject
guides; and an understanding of collection development principles.
Salary
The Salary for this position is $36,300.00

Location
The Library for the National Resource Center for Child Traumatic Stress is
located in Durham, North Carolina. Part of the Research Triangle, the area is rich in educational, cultural, and recreational
opportunities. Named for the three cities of Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh,, the Triangle is also home to several institutions of higher education
including Duke University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and other colleges and universities. The Research Triangle Park is an internationally recognized center for cutting-edge research and
development. The Blue Ridge Mountains and Atlantic Coast beaches are also
within a few hours drive.
