As usual this group came through.  Since I had already looked at most of 
the web sites recommended, it confirmed that the information is not readily 
available.  I did find a good article that I think will answer the 
need.  Andrus MR. Health literacy: a review.  Pharmacotherapy 2002 
Mar;22(3): 282-302.  We were looking for the readability level at which 
printed patient information should be written.  This article recommends 
preparing written material at a 5th grade level.  It says to anticipate the 
reading ability to be at least two grades below the education level 
attained.  Thanks to everyone who responded.
