Leadership Institute
Sponsored by the North Carolina Library Association
October 17 - 21, 2005

The North Carolina Library Association invites librarians,
paraprofessionals, and library science graduate students to apply to the
fifth NCLA Leadership Institute. The Institute is a comprehensive,
week-long, on-site learning experience for leaders and emerging leaders in
academic, public, school, and special libraries. Effective leadership is
vital for library directors, division and department heads, committee
chairs, team leaders, and project managers. Librarianship also needs
successful leaders for our professional associations and consortiums. The
NCLA Leadership Institute will address;

· Leadership styles
· Self awareness
· Vision and strategic planning
· Organizational cultures
· Group dynamics
· Motivation
· Conflict resolution
· Teamwork

The Institute will take place at The Summit in Brown Summit, thirty miles
north of Greensboro. The Summit is a conference center located in 200
wooded acres in the North Carolina piedmont. It's natural setting and
rustic accommodations promotes reflective thought and transformational
learning.

The Institute facilitator is Robert James, Associate Director of Public
Services at the Duke University Medical Center Library. Speakers include
Carol Walters, Director of Libraries for the Sandhill Regional Library
System; Linda Ramsey, Director of Library Services at Johnston Community
College; Kim Armstrong, Program Officer for the Triangle Research
Libraries Network; Sylvia Sprinkle-Hamlin, Director of the Forsyth County
