    AHEC Digital Library Assistant Database / Web Developer
    Temporary Position

The AHEC Digital Library (ADL) is a dynamically generated customized web
site designed to be the first choice portal to the Internet for all NC
healthcare professionals. It includes full-text journals and textbooks,
electronic databases such as MEDLINE and CINAHL, comprehensive health
information sites such as MDConsult, and other health links. The ADL is
developed and maintained in partnership with the staff of the UNC Chapel
Hill Health Sciences Library and in consultation with AHEC libraries and the
NC AHEC Program Office staff.


      Primary Responsibilities

The ADL Assistant Database/Web Developer will assist the ADL Database/Web
Development Librarian with the design of web applications, user interfaces,
administrative tools and utilities, and the ADL databases. The assistant
developer will work under the direct supervision of the ADL Database/Web
Development Librarian and will work closely with on-site ADL librarians and
AHEC program office staff.

Duties include:

    * Assist in the development of the ADL administrative tools and
      utilities using SQL, Cold Fusion, and other appropriate software
      applications.
    * Create search, retrieval, and display functions and data entry and
      export utilities for administrative utilities.
    * Assume primary responsibility for ADL technical user support and
      troubleshooting.
    * Assist with account maintenance.
    * Maintain the ADL database, adding fields, indexing, queries, etc..
    * Assist with usability testing of ADL administrative utilities.
    * Participate in establishing data search and retrieval functions
      between ADL and other AHEC resources as appropriate.
    * Create appropriate technical documentation for the project.
    * Other maintenance and development functions as assigned .


      Organizational Relationship

The AHEC Digital Library (ADL) Assistant Database/Web Developer is a member
of the Applications Development Services Department (ADS) and reports
directly to the ADL Database/Web Development Librarian. The individual is
also a member of the ADL project staff team. The individual in this position
is expected to participate in ADS Department meetings and HSL and AHEC
activities related to the ADL.


      Skills, Knowledge, Abilities Required

# Database design and development experience (e.g. Microsoft Access and
SQL).
# Web-database middleware development (e.g. Cold Fusion) experience.
# Knowledge of/experience with Internet technologies.
# Knowledge of web user interface design and evaluation.
# Working experience in a team environment.
# Ability to work independently.
# Excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
# Strong interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills.


      Desired

# Graduate student in information science preferred.
# Experience with Cold Fusion.
# SQL and Microsoft SQL database development experience.
# Knowledge of the organization and services of libraries.
# Commitment to serving information needs of the general public and health
professionals.


      Schedule

20 hours a week. Flexible work hours within Monday through Friday, 8am - 
5pm schedule. Position begins as soon as possible and continues through 
mid-August 2005.


      Salary

Up to $16 per hour depending on skills and experience.
