Colleagues,

Here is a good opportunity for mental health librarians to discuss
important issues in a national forum.  We are urging you to submit a
paper, poster or skit for MLA 2006.  Deadline for submission is Monday
November 7 at midnight Central Time.

This session, co-sponsored by the MLA Mental Health Special Interest
Group (SIG) is titled

Between 'madness' and mental health: changing perceptions and treatment.

Perceptions and treatment of persons with mental illness (formerly
termed mad/insane) have changed.  Papers/skits/posters showing the
transformation of how society or medicine has viewed mental illness may
cover topics, persons, or institutions involved with these
transformations.  Topics may include: pharmacotherapy; stigma;
medico-legal information (insanity defense, imprisonment);
deinstitutionalization; definitions (e.g., homosexuality was previously
considered a psychiatric disorder); or unique/historic library
collections.
