Extreme Googling for Health and Medical Information Specialists
Association of North Carolina Health & Science Libraries Fall Meeting

Google is widely recognized as the best search engine on the Web and is
heavily used to locate health and medical information. This course will
teach you how Google thinks and works to optimize your ability to
construct effective searches. You will learn to identify and work with
Google's many unique features. This hands-on workshop will provide
exercises, theoretical background, and discussion to give you experience
with effectively using Google's often mysterious defaults, its unique
ranking algorithm, its many advanced search options and tools, its
potential as an encyclopedic dictionary, its preference settings, and some
of its special services. Examples and content are focused for researchers
in the fields of medical and health information. Approved for 4
continuing education credits from the Medical Library Association. The
instructor is Joe Baker, Program Coordinator at the Teaching Library,
University of California at Berkeley.
Registration:
The class size for this hands-on course is limited to 30 participants so
advanced registration is required. The deadline is September 15, 2006.
ANCHASL members will be given registration priority. Lunch and
refreshments are included in the fee. Parking is not. ANCHASL members
will receive a brochure and registration form in the mail very soon. A
ballot for new ANCHASL officers will also be included. If you would like
