Assistant Director

AHEC Library and Information Resource Center

The AHEC Library and Information Resource Center is seeking a dynamic,
proactive Masters prepared librarian with strong supervisory skills to
serve as the Assistant Director.  Primary responsibilities of the
Assistant Director are: assists the Director in the assessment of AHEC
Library services and the creation and achievement of departmental goals;
supervises activities of library staff and conducts annual staff
evaluations; manages the library budget and daily operations. In
collaboration with the Director, the Assistant Director creates and
executes library policies, and provides the vision for future library
initiatives and direction.  The Assistant Director will play an integral
part in all technology initiatives, research support, customer service
activities, training and educational programming, and the dissemination
of knowledge-based resources to all our constituents within our nine
county region. The Assistant Director will be an active participant in
the creation of a new vision for the library and with our possible
future expansion.  

 

The ideal candidate will understand the value of librarians in a
healthcare setting and their positive impact on patient safety, cost
effective medicine and high quality medical education.  Preference will
be given to candidates that are facile with Evidence-Based Practice and
who are comfortable presenting in front of large groups.  We welcome
those candidates who possess a high competence with technology and who
stay current with emerging technologies as it relates to information
dissemination and support.  

 

The AHEC Library and Information Resource Center is located on the
campus of Carolinas Medical Center. The library serves a varied
constituency that includes: medical education faculty and residents,
researchers, health sciences students, and all healthcare providers
within the Charlotte AHEC region.

 

Required: ALA accredited master's degree in library and information
science.  Minimum three years experience serving in a leadership role in
a medical library.  Strong supervisory and budget management skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively
with the Director and other team members.  Strong working knowledge of
online databases, resources and digital libraries.  Excellent
technological expertise.

 

Preferred:  Management / leadership training; experience teaching
healthcare providers especially Practice-Based Learning; e-journal
management; active memberships in professional organizations; active
member of hospital / organization committees; active community
involvement.

 

Salary:  $53,996 - $80,995.  Salary is based on experience and
qualifications.
