Call for Papers and Posters
You are invited to submit proposals for contributed papers and posters for
the MAC/MLA 2008 Annual Meeting in Morgantown, WV on October 20 – 22. The
meeting’s theme is “Almost Heaven: Exploring New Vistas.” The 2008
Planning Committee invites MAC members to submit proposals related to:
How High & How Far? - Share what your library is doing to keep your staff
and users happy. What changes in service, operation, or building have
been implemented?
Looking to the Horizon - How are you planning for the future? How have
you been able to create opportunities?
A Little Closer to Heaven - How are you collaborating with other
libraries, health professionals, agencies or others? What strategies have
you found in creating successful partnerships?
Totally New Vistas - What new technologies have you experimented with or
introduced at your library?
Have other ideas? We’d love to hear them! Please share your research and
ideas with your colleagues.
Submit two copies of the abstract (300 word maximum). Proposals must be
submitted in the format of structured abstracts. For more information see
http://www.scmla.org/abformat.htm or http://research.mlanet.org/. Include
a list of authors, their institutional affiliations, email addresses, and
telephone numbers with the first copy of the abstract. The second copy
will be used in a blind review process and should not include any specific
information that would identify either the authors or their institutions.
Abstracts will be evaluated on originality, innovation, organization and
clarity of presentation, as well as relevance to improving service or
practice. The primary author will be notified of the committee's decision
in August. Additional information (i.e. time, location, setup
instructions, etc.) will be sent with acceptance notification. Note: Those
presenting in Morgantown must be registered for the meeting.
Contributed Papers: Email abstracts to Susan Simpson at simpsons at ecu.edu
using a Word attachment.
Posters: Presenters should plan to be available to staff posters during a
45 minute poster session. Each presenter's area will be provided with a
poster board (8’ x 4’). Electrical connections will not be available.
Email abstracts to Brandi Tuttle at brandi.tuttle at duke.edu using a Word
attachment.
To ensure that MAC members are able to make the most of the annual meeting
experience, MAC has established a mentoring program to support members
with little or no experience in preparing posters or presenting papers.
For more information about working with or serving as a mentor, see
http://www.cbil.vcu.edu/mac/pd/poster_paper_mentor.html. To help you get
started now with posters, see the Jan. 2007 NN/LM SE/A presentation on
creating posters using PowerPoint at
http://nnlm.gov/sea/services/webconf/Jan2007/jan092007.html
The deadline for submitting abstracts is June 16, 2008.
