Emergency Planning for At-Risk Groups
We want to share with you a new preparedness website directed at North Carolinians.
http://nccphp.sph.unc.edu/at-riskplanning/index.htm
The website is a toolkit for NC Departments of Health. It contains info helpful to anyone who works or lives with someone with special needs. See specifically "How to Prepare Yourself and Your Family for Disasters", a customizable PPT for use with at-risk individuals. Please take a look and share the site with those who can benefit.
September is National Preparedness Month!
>From Cindy Love

National Library of Medicine
If your library wants to promote National Preparedness Month, you can register at http://ready.adcouncil.org. The free registration gives you access to a 51-page how-to manual on promoting disaster preparedness, posters, logos, a PowerPoint presentation, and web banners. More than 3,200 organizations registered last year, including schools, government agencies, faith-based organizations, non-profits, military and others. (Only 7 of the 3,200 were libraries!)
You can also download many ready.gov publications at http://www.ready.gov/america/publications/allpubs.html, with no registration required.
Videos for general audiences and on preparedness for older Americans, pets, and people with disabilities and special needs are available at http://www.ready.gov/america/about/instructional.html.
National Preparedness Month is sponsored by two federal programs, the Ready campaign and Citizen Corps, both part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). See http://ready.gov and http://www.citizencorps.gov for more about these programs. The Ready campaign's Spanish-language web site is http://www.listo.gov.
