I will be presenting the minutes from the ANCHASL Fall 2009 Business
Meeting this Friday at our ANCHASL program. Many of the folks on this
list attended the Fall meeting, but will not be able to attend this
ANCHASL program, so if you attended the Fall meeting, would you mind
taking a look at these draft minutes and letting me know if you see any
corrections?

We look forward to seeing many of you this Friday!
Thanks-
Karen

ANCHASL Fall 2009 Business Meeting Minutes-November 13, 2009, Asheboro, NC
Transcribed by Karen Grigg, ANCHASL Secretary
Call to order: Rosa Edwards called the meeting to order at 12:30 pm.
Reading of 06/18/09 minutes: approved.
A question arose as to whether anyone paid by check for the Fall meeting,
as ANCHASL pays $250 per year for the ability to register by mail via
Acteva. Beverly. Murphy stated that one person paid by check. One option
discussed was that persons paying by check could be registered manually.
The decision was made to defer this question to the next Executive Board
meeting.
Meeting Info/Sponsor Thanks- Kris Alpi thanked NLM/SEA and EBSCO for their
sponsorship and to Margaret Cobb for securing their sponsorship and for
making the screensavers for the computer at the meeting.
Treasurer’s Report-Rebecca Johnston. The issue of paying by check, rather
than by Acteva, was raised again, and was, again ,deferred to the next
Executive Board meeting. Treasurer’s Report was approved.
Nominating Committee- Monique Mackey-

The Nominating Committee, which also includes Karen Martinez, Charlie
Lackey, and Beth Ketterman, announced the following election results:

Mary Beth Schell will be the incoming President-Elect, replacing Kris
Alpi, and Susan Hardee has been elected Treasurer, replacing Rebecca
Johnston. Kris Alpi is now ANCHASL President.

Additionally, the changes to the bylaws proposed by Beverly Murphy were
approved.

Committee Reports
Membership Committee- Susan Hardee for Dan Oates
Mr. Oates was unable to attend. The discussion of alcoholic beverages at
the ANCHASL MAC Reception was reintroduced. Ms. Hardee reported. The
attendees met at Gallagher’s Bar. $200 was given to the waitress
beforehand for 14 people. ANCHASL bought the attendees’ first drink,
whether it was alcoholic or not. Hors d’oeuvres were also provided by
ANCHASL. Ms. Hardee stated that this approach worked very well, but that
it would be possible to try a different approach next year in Chapel Hill
if we wanted to do so. The discussion was deferred to the next Executive
Board Meeting. The Committee reports that a new chair is needed.
Continuing Education Committee- Margaret Cobb
Ms. Cobb distributed a grid that showed all the CE events offered by
ANCHASL since Spring of 2004. She stated that ANCHASL is becoming known
for offering a good number of CE opportunities at a reasonable cost. There
were 35 total CE Points available since Spring of 2004 and 413 total
attendees. Ms.Cobb announced that the new members of the 2010-2011
committee are Leila Ledbetter (incoming chair), Melanie Norton, and Lea
Leininger. This will be Ms. Cobb’s last meeting as Chair.
Publicity Committee- Mary Beth Schell- no report. Committee Chair
position has become available now that Ms. Schell is becoming the
President-Elect.
Archivist- Adonna Thompson- no report
Scholarship Committee- Susan Hardee
Ms. Hardee has included a list of people who have received scholarships
for this year. Each person’s experience report is attached.
Unfortunately, no one applied for the scholarships for this meeting. Carol
Vreeland is incoming chair of this committee. MLA is going to have new,
separate, “virtual registration fees” for those who are planning to attend
a conference “virtually”. Ms. Alpi asked if we would need to modify
Scholarship guidelines to allow people to apply for virtual CE? The topic
will be discussed at the next ANCHASL Executive Board Meeting.
Old Business- none
New Business
Ms. Alpi reminded everyone that on 11/18, there will be an MLA web cast
and that there are many sites in the region for interested attendees. 88
sites registered this time; 5 in North Carolina. Ms. Alpi showed a list
of the NC sites and contacts at these sites.
Certificates were distributed to officers and committee members for
appreciation for service.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted by Karen Stanley Grigg, ANCHASL Secretary
