Invitation to the eScience Symposium
(held at the end of the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Mid Atlantic Chapter
(MAC) of the Medical Library Association)
The Role of Libraries in E-science: Translating Data into Practice
Friday, October 15, 2010
12PM-5PM
William and Ida Friday Center
Chapel Hill, NC

Big Science; Bench to Bedside; Big Data; CTSA; Grid Computing; NIH
Roadmap; Knowledge Transfer; Cyberinfrastructure; E-Research. How do you
bring these concepts together, make decisions about information services
and resources, and put them into practice? Speakers engaged in the
creation, storage, access and use of vast amounts of data will share their
views and insights on aspects of the data life-cycle and the implications
for libraries. You will begin to design action agendas with your
colleagues -- after all, e-science and translational science are
collaborative!
Symposium highlights:
* Lunch & keynote speaker Neil Rambo, Acting Associate Dean at the
University of Washington Libraries, on the role of libraries in eScience.
* "The Data Lifecycle" panel discussion. Four distinguished panelists
will share their perspectives on data-driven science through the lenses of
health care providers, faculty, researchers, and information scientists.
The panelists will interact with each other and the audience to help
elicit "take-aways" for each of us.
* Facilitated round table discussions to create action agendas with
your colleagues.
To register:
Online Registration available at
http://www.macmla2010.org/registration.html
