Instructional Design Librarian
Laupus Library, East Carolina University (ECU) seeks an enthusiastic,
flexible, proactive, service-oriented, and innovative individual for the
position of Instructional Design Librarian. The librarian supports student
learning by working in partnership with library and teaching faculty to
apply learning theories and technology to develop, implement, and maintain
general and course-specific online learning objects, instructional modules,
and other library instruction materials; uses professional library
knowledge and experience to facilitate the integration and use of these
materials in course management systems and other online environments; and
ensures compliance with higher education standards and guidelines such as
those from ACRL.
The Instructional Design Librarian assists in the identification of
information literacy needs of on-campus and distance education students,
and designs learning objects and other instructional materials for
improving student learning outcomes. This librarian also designs and
conducts assessments of the effectiveness of library instruction. The
successful candidate coordinates the library's social media presence;
explores new technologies related to online teaching and learning; and
trains librarians and staff in the use of new technologies.
This librarian is also a member of the Information Services Department and
provides reference assistance including: evidence based literature
searches, instruction and assistance on information resources and databases
both onsite and via the web, consultations with research faculty to provide
professional literature searching, partnering with teaching faculty to
provide library and information literacy instruction classes or other
learning objects for students, works scheduled shifts at the reference desk
including some Saturdays, is active in professional library organizations
and maintains membership eligibility for the Medical Library Association
Academy of Health Information Professionals. This position also serves as
liaison to the ECU School of Dental Medicine. This position reports to the
Assistant Director for User Services.
Minimum Qualifications
ALA-accredited master's degree or international equivalent in library or
information science. Knowledge of applications and technologies used in
higher education instruction, including course management systems.
Coursework or experience in instructional design. Excellent interpersonal,
oral, and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with
faculty, staff and users. Commitment to innovative and successful user
services.
Preferred Qualifications
Instructional technology and/or design experience in developing online
tutorials and other learning objects. Demonstrated knowledge of production
tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Audacity, Camtasia). Experience working
in an academic library. Experience working in reference services.
Familiarity with ACRL Standards for Information Literacy and Distance
Learning Library Services. Instructional experience. Familiarity with
Apple products and Mac software.
Salary
Minimum starting salary $45,000
