Dr. Kate Scholberg gave an exciting presentation about neutrino detection and how that can be used to provide an early warning about Type 2 supernovae in our galaxy. Briefly, a neutrino "pulse" precedes the visual appearance of a supernova by hours to days and will allow scientists to learn about the early events involved in "going supernova," as well as giving individuals time to pull down the window shade or anything else you plan to do if there is a supernova in the area. Amateur astronomers can get involved - check out snews.bnl.gov to sign up! Walter
