Recent UNC grad and new Univ. of Chicago astronomy grad student Matt Bayliss thrilled a large crowd with stills and videos of the Deep Impact probe smashing into Comet Tempel-1, a feat described as shooting a bullet (the probe) from a bullet (Earth) to hit a bullet (the comet). Isn't Newtonian physics wonderful? Matt also explained the scientific basis of the mission which is to gather data from what may be a pristine object formed at the beginning of the Solar System. A more detailed account of the talk will be in the CHAOS newsletter. Your club officers will remember that a great topic like this will gather a large audience. Thanks Matt and good luck in Chicago. Walter
