Hi Jon,
I can offer to participate in this, and bring a scope if you think it is
worth it.

Hi all. I haven't heard from anybody but Robert about Perseid
observing. Is anyone else interested?

Also, i've been approached about a public-interest session the night of
8/12 (Friday). The subdivision of Cornwallis Hills (a little south of
Hillsboro) is planning an astronomy evening and have asked me to invite
Chaos to participate. They have a community park with a fairly large
open field, and wish to host telescopic viewing until 11:00 or so, and
then meteors for as long as people can stay awake.

I visited the site last night, and it's not great for observing,
primarily because of a local streetlight. It's a pretty good place for
a public session outside of that, though, with lots of space, fairly
decent horizons, and a supportive HOA board. Speaking of which, the
latter said they were going to try to get the streetlight diffuser
painted on the side toward the park, which would help a lot. If that
doesn't happen, they were talking about putting up a poles-and-tyvek
(R) light barrier.

Anybody interested in a bit of civilian astronomy?

J.
