Please note this "outreach" opportunity in Durham next month. Sounds like there may be quite a few "newbees" there, I.e. potential CHAOS members. And all we have to do is find the moon! I'll remind everyone in a few weeks. Don't forget the observing session tonight that is being formulated on the listserve! Walter

Hi Walter and CHAOS members. The Watts Hospital-Hillandale Neighborhood Association is having its annual fall festival on Saturday, September 17 at Oval Park, located between Oval Drive and Oakland Avenue on West Club Blvd in Durham, between 3 and 10pm. It has been one of the highlights of the neighborhood traditions for years, and we have a lot of traditions in this neighborhood!

Approx 350-400 are expected to participate in the day's events; I expect far fewer will remain after sundown - probably 50-75. The day's events begin at 3pm with kids games; potluck dinner begins at 6pm with jazz and dancing. CHAOS members would be welcome to join us for dinner! Just let me know how many of you will join us so I can order enough food! We will have a jazz band playing until 8pm. The field is about as big as a football field. I will check this weekend, but I think the best visibility will be from Oval Drive and/or Oakland Avenue. My goal is to reserve both side streets so RAC and CHAOS members can park, unload and set-up. The entire event will be cancelled if it rains. We don't have any contingency plans.

I hope this info helps. Please let me know if there is anything else you'd like to know. Thank you very much for your help. I appreciate it immensely. I think this will be great opportunity to influence some youngsters in the neighborhood to get involved in observing. Bring your CHAOS cards! Debbie

You came to the right place! Please let us know the details and we'll try to get a contingent together. I'll try to check out the site (I'm from Durham and know where it is) and figure out where the moon will be. Walter

Dear Mr. Fowler. My name is Debbie Kelly and I am the chair of the Watts Hospital-Hillandale Neighborhood Association 2005 FestOval. FestOval is an annual Fall festival held in WHH. This year it will be held on Saturday, September 17, the night of the Full Harvest Moon. The moon is going to be theme of this year's event. I have attended several RAC gatherings and have invited members to bring their telescopes to Oval Park in WHH on 9/17 to introduce others to the art and science. Several RAC members suggested inviting CHAOS members as well. Are you the right person to talk to about getting in touch with CHAOS members to invite them to the event? I would be glad to provide details regarding number of expected attendess, size of location, proximity to parking, etc. Thank you very much. I will look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Debbie Kelly
