[Chaos-l] Cornwallis Hills public session report

Just an additional comment on last night. As Jon said, the conditions made
it pretty abysmal as an observing session, but the fact that there were so
many young kids and there parents getting their first opportunity to look at
the moon and Jupiter through a scope made it a rewarding and worthwhile
effort.

Hi all. I'm growing rather discouraged with both the Clear Sky Clock
and the Weather Underground: neither of them seem to be able to handle
the local Carolina August observing weather.

It was anything but clear tonight. In spite of that, Peter, Margareta,
and i set up scopes and hosted a fair crowd of folks. Observing
targets were Jupiter, the moon, assorted multiple stars, and M13.
Between the humidity and the streetlight, not much else _was_
observable.

Despite that i had a pretty good time showing people stuff, talking
about what a meteor show is and why we're having one tonight, and so
on. Several people brought newly-purchased scopes to set up, and i was
able to help a couple of them with adjustments, finder alignment and so
on.

As an observing session it was a washout, but for a public event it
wasn't bad. Thanks to Peter for bringing another scope and helping out.

J.
