Bryan Henry spoke to a crowd of about 20 people last night at East Chapel
Hill High School. Bryan has been an avid amateur astronomer for most of his
life and has developed detailed recommendations regarding "Deep Sky
Observing." These range from choice of observing targets (which depend on
type and size of telescope available and darkness of observing site) to
practical considerations such as what these objects actually look like
through a relatively small telescope in a relatively light polluted sky
(let's be realistic!). The response to the talk was great even though the
audience included novice and very experienced observers and we will try to
make the information in this talk available as a link to the CHAOS website.
Several new and potential new members attended this meeting and the level of
enthusiasm about the club and about group observing seems to be high going
into the new year. Stay tuned about future opportunities! Walter
