I read your reminiscences of the moon walk. 
 I rememter Sputnik.   There isn't an anniversary, but anyway, here it is.  
In 1960 during the summer I was working as a girl Friday at Pisgah Inn (near Asheville).  Some of the hotel guests had brought a telescope and set it up on the terrace.  They found the first Sputnik and let me see it.  I don't know how long the first Sputnik stayed up there, but this was in 1960.  No, we couldn't hear the Beep beep beep...
