And where was the Moon that day (what phase?) That question is answered in my favorite moon book by Don Wilhelms: "To a Rocky Moon - A Geologist's History of Lunar Exploration" (1993) He really captures both the science and the excitement of it, for example ...

"The alarms prevented Armstrong and Aldrin from studying their landing site on the way down and locating the landmarks they had studied for many hours on the Apollo 8 and 10 photographs. Armstrong did not like what he saw when he looked out his triangular LM window at the plae the computers were taking them; bolcks "the size of Volkswagens" ejected from a crater about 18- m across named West. He took over control of Eagle ..." WOW!

If you have a chance, go out side and lookup. Do you remember what you
were doing 37 years ago when three astronauts stood on and orbited the
Moon?

My parents sent me to bed at my normal time. I had to watch the replay the
next morning.

In case you forgot, July 20th 1969 was a Sunday.

Time sure goes by quickly. I must be having fun!
