Hello everyone,
Tuesdays meeting was well attended by 25+ people at the Carol Woods
Assembly Hall.
Andrew Foster gave a terrific presentation on Skynet and PROMPT. He
attempted to take some images from UNC's PROMPT telescopes in Chile, but
a less than perfect Internet connection prevented the system from
completing it's assigned task. There were many questions asked about the
system to Andrew and he did a great job explaining just how the system
works.
This is a great tool for high school teachers to use for teaching their
students. Even during class, images can be taken from the other side of
the world where it is dark and displayed in the classroom the same day. If
we only had this while I was in school.
Alice gave a great talk during the, "What's Up", portion of the meeting.
I'm still trying to get out and see the Zodiacal Lights.
Robert Nielsen told us about an observing session at Cedar Ridge High
School on the 22nd or 23rd of this month. Watch the ListServ for more
information. The more telescopes that are there , the more the students
will be able see.
Robert also modeled the New CHAOS T-Shirt. Let me state categorically, "
These are very nice."
Great job Robert.
Walter Fowler mentioned that registration for the Winter Star Party is at
hand. If you are interested in going, you'll need to register early. There
are only 700 spots available at this star party. Picture this;
The Florida Keys in February while it's winter. AAAAHHHHH, NICE!
Clear Skies!
Jayme
