Yep ... I went to the local strip mall, where (judging from the lay 
of the land) I would have a clear view of where the sun was 
setting.  Sure enough, once Venus appeared and I got my bearings, I 
could see it in binoculars as well.  It was interesting seeing it 
amidst all the jet contrails ...

I might try it again tonight, if things are clear (although it isn't 
really a good horizon).
