[Chaos-l] Observing

Hi all. Robert and Terry were already at Farrington when i arrived around 9:00ish last Saturday. Apparently there was an astronomy class from Duke there as well, because there were more cars in the field than i'd ever seen before.

Conditions were pretty good, but between the Dukes to the north and boaters to the south, the headlights were something of a bother. Fortunately it wasn't very windy, so i put up my experimental headlight filter. It actually did help quite a bit, but didn't cover enough of the road. I need to make it bigger, and get it to stand up to a bit of wind, and it'll be fairly useful at places like Farrington.

As far as actual observing, i mostly just hit the late winter tourist traps, then took a quick look at the Leo and Ursa Major galaxies. Conditions started deteriorating shortly after 10, so we started packing it in. My take-down was almost as long as Roberts this time, because of the headlight filter.

J.
