I got up at 4am and drove around a bit to find a good place to watch and photograph the eclipse. I could see the moon Ok but it was a little foggy in places. I ended up in at a rural church parking lot in northern Durham county that had a great western view. It was a lighted parking lot but the lighting was not an issue on the western horizon. The eclipse started at about 4:50 or so and became total at 5:50 or so. It was very humid but my lenses didn't fog up. The moon was quite high in the sky, 35 to 40 degrees, for some reason I thought it would have been lower on the horizon. This eclipse was quite a bit different from the one that occurred earlier this year. For this one, at total eclipse you couldn't see the moon at all. I took a few pics. I started watching around 4:30 in front of my house, with a poor Western
view. Then migrated to a Starbucks, which opened at 5:30 for the last 15
minutes before it disappeared. I used my 15x70 binocs. It was kind of neat,
because the light in the parking lot was not really an issue, and some of
the straggling few folks blundering by on their way to work were interested.
Plus the baristas were interested. So, astronomy outreach !!
