Everyone,
I plan on being somewhere in the first 10 people to setup ... I will
be waiting in line when MASP opens!
There is a logistical problem with having a "CHAOS area" ... the
sites are first-come, first-serve ... and unless we are all there
roughly at the same time, the sites are taken by different
groups. What I did last year was setup facing the "telescopes only"
area ... so that everyone from CHAOS could setup their scopes around
my tent in roughly the same spot. But that didn't work, (1) because
they needed more tent area and collapsed the telescope area to a
smaller plot, and (2) CHAOS members showed up in tents at different
times during the week and setup wherever was "best" at that
point. So I think *camping* near each other may be next to
impossible. Observing next to each other may be possible.
During the early part of the week, there isn't much going on outside
of observing and visiting with other folks (which, as Mark says, it
thoroughly enjoyable on its own ... in fact, it is the part that I
enjoy the most). More stuff happens later in the week, when the
vendors show up, there are more "interesting" speakers, etc. But I
enjoy the "time off from work" to observe every night, and sleep
during the day.
I assume Alice will also show up this year. So it sounds like we
will have a fairly big turnout. Be sure to look me up when you get
there (look for the CHAOS banner) ...
Robert
PS. Mark, the field to the right had problems with trees (as did
some other places), and that is where the organizers lined everyone
up before they registered ... so I don't think it would be the best spot.
