It sure was. I managed to get a dozen folks out of a party long enough to bath in the moon/mars light.

Subject: [Chaos-l] Mars and Moon!
Hi,
On a beautiful night of Mars opposition and less than a degree from the Moon and a clear, steady night, I have finally have been able to see the elusive surface features on Mars! With my 7mm Burgess (271x), a Mars Filter, and a carefully collimated 381mm Dob I was easily able to see Syrtis Major!!! It looks like a "triangle" with angles pointing north, east, and southwest.
Did anyone get a chance to get out and see the moon and Mars?? If you get this message tonight, get out there and check it out. This is the best Mars is going to get for a long time.
Mark
