Dan Reichart, Professor of Physics at UNC Chapel Hill, is offering a wonderful chance to use a 40 foot Radio Telescope to 1 or on occasion 2 adult amateur astronomers. So if you have an idea to do some science in radio astronomy, here is your chance. Here is the information from Dan.
----------------------------
I wanted to give you all a heads up that I'm now accepting applications for
the radio astronomy "dream camp" that I coordinate. Competition for the 15
slots can be fierce, but I'm usually able to make room for one and
occasionally even two adult enthusiasts each year. So feel free to advertise
to your clubs (or apply yourselves if you're interested).
Here's some more info:
The program is called Educational Research in Radio Astronomy (ERIRA), and
it takes place at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank,
West Virginia. This year the program will take place from Saturday, July
26 to Friday, August 1 (Saturday and Friday are travel days). Participants
have exclusive access to a 40-foot radio telescope for the duration of the
week. With it, they make images of the invisible universe, do small-scale
research projects, and much, much more.
Participants also have access to optical telescopes in Chile and elsewhere
via the internet.
Everything you ever wanted to know about ERIRA, and then some, can be found
at:
http://www.physics.unc.edu/~reichart/erira.html
Thanks!
Dan
P.S. Applications should be in by April 30th!!!
----------------------------
So if you're wanting to spread you astronomical wings, this is your opportunity.
Good Luck!
Jayme
