[Chaos-l] Suggestions - NC mountain cabin with dark skies for an extended weekend

I've had luck in the past (although before I got into astronomy) getting
cabins for cheap in real dark places near ski resorts. It's the off season,
so sometimes there will be an entire "neighborhood" of such cabins that are
empty. Without being able to ski in the spring, many people don't want to go
to spend that extra hour driving up mountains. They're happy to hang near
places like Blowing Rock and Asheville.
A couple of summers ago, I spent 8 nights in a cabin in the mountains of New
Mexico at about 9300ft ASL. It was part of a collection of cabins about 3
miles up a dirt road from a tiny ski town (Red River). I think we paid about
$45/night for a nice 2-bedroom cabin, and out of about 15 cabins, we were the
only people there for nearly the entire time. It was so dark that I couldn't
see ANYTHING. Even after being outside for 5-10 minutes, I had to try hard
to see my hand waving in front of my own face.
Let us know what you find.
