[Chaos-l] Dark Site tonite??

Tonight was excellent at Farrington, but not until late.

I arrived about 11pm. It was quite hazy, and Steve reported that the haze had
set in about 25 minutes prior. I decided to set up anyway. Around 11:45,
the haze lifted, and the sky became very clear. It was also fairly dry and
warm. I never put on a jacket tonight.

I toured lots of galaxies in Leo. It was amazing how much detail I could see,
and I found myself running into unexpected galaxies while searching for
others. Most of the galaxy hunting was done with my Nagler 17mm, for a
magnification of about 121. That's the shortest focal length eyepiece in
Nagler's line that comes as a 2", but I think a lot of these objects are
bright enough that I should push them up to at least 160x to see more detail.

I also viewed several globular clusters. M13 of course stole the show. Just
before I left around 2am, I viewed M13 and the Ring Nebula at 400x.
Spectacular! I could tell that stars would not focus to quite the precision
I was used to, but it was still very close. The Ring showed some nice color
contrast near the edges.
