Bobby,

Welcome. I suggest having a look at the website first.

http://www.rtpnet.org/chaos/

You can see a list of our regularly-scheduled observing sessions with location
information. In addition, keep an eye on this list for discussion of
impromptu sessions. It's a very friendly and knowledgeable crowd. I joined
the club, and the hobby, about a year ago and learned a ton just by going out
to the observing sessions.

We do a lot of observing from a boat ramp area on Farrington Point, south of
Chapel Hill on Jordan Lake. A permit is required to use that location, but
one perk of being a paid CHAOS member is that you get a copy of the club's
permit. Another perk is that you get to use our Dark Site, which is a farm
up near the VA border.

Sorry for the CUA(*). MASP is the Mid Atlantic Star Party. It's a week-long
observing session where folks from all over set up their scopes and camp out
near Robbins, NC. I'm new to the hobby and haven't made it to MASP yet, but
I'm very hopeful that this year will work out.
