Greetings to all,
Yesterdays meeting was attended by CHAOS and RAC members. We were given free run of the 4th floor and the Observatory for an hour or so. We were able to play with one of the telescope in the lab by moving it around with a joystick. Dr. Dan Reichart gave us a demonstration and explanation of Skynet . They were very hospitable to us amateur astronomers. The telescope in the observatory was open and functioning, however the clouds tried their best to dampen the night. Fortunately, the clouds parted for a few moments giving us a little time to see the limb of the moon.
We went into the Star Theater around 8:15 where Alice Yeaman gave us the "What's Up" report. Amy Sayle gave us a tour of the sky, telling us of up and coming events. She took us from the northern hemisphere to the southern. We travelled the world in just a few moments.
Mickey Jo Sorrell explained the up an coming events that the Planetarium has planned and the RAC club told us about events they are heading up like Astronomy Days and some events in April. Both ask for CHAOS's assistance. The International Year of Astronomy is a big event all over the world and it is a great opportunity for CHAOS to get involved.
Robert Nielsen did some brain storming of his own and came up with some great ideas that were shared at the meeting. We'll get those posted. Maybe some of members may know how to make some of his or even some of your ideas fly. Every idea is worth thinking about, even the one of ordering up a viewable but not too close Supernova in 2009.
Here is the International Year of Astronomy Websit : http :// www .astronomy2009.org/
Check it out.
Astronomy Days are quickly approaching, We need your help for ideas and to man our table.
Clear Skies!
Jayme
