[Chaos-l] My first astrophoto

I've been experimenting with my Canon XTi with good results. I don't have a lot of time these days but I managed to get a good M42 last season just after I got the camera though it took some playing around in Nebulosity to really bring it out. I'm considering picking up a modified camera exclusively for astroimaging. It's certainly far easier than the old days manually guiding with film.

Congratulations Michael, on a nice shot. And welcome to a very addicting aspect of astronomy. I'm not sure whether to welcome you or pity you, lol.. : )
You will be amazed what you can do with that camera. Even in severely light polluted skies, as long as you take lots and lots of images you can get nice results.
Here is the result of about 2 hours worth of 30-second exposures of the cluster 7789 in Cass I took from my deck at the end of '08. A quick & dirty crop, not ideal, but it gives you an idea.

And these things are so ridiculously fun with a DSLR they should be outlawed: http://www.astrotrac.com/

You guessed it. What else could I image tonight but the moon? This was done from my back porch with a Celestron 4" f/9.8 refractor (the Omni XLT) and a Canon XSi.
Is that yellow tinting near the top-left chromatic aberration?
Michael
