[Chaos-l] Thursday night?

Michael,

Hmmm. I have something Thursday and Friday nights that will make it
impossible for me to reach Medoc Mountain before 6 PM. But I might be
able to make somewhere else those nights. You do realize that the
first-quarter moon is up and sets around 9 PM on Thursday, 10 PM on
Friday, and 11 PM on Saturday? I guess that's why you wanted to pick
Thursday night.

At this point, I would not press Medoc Mountain unless (1) Allen Davis
or I is there, or (2) you are camping. I'm still building the
relationship with the rangers, and still need to work out the
specification of the special use permit. Allen seems to think that we
might not be charged anything for the permit and essentially get an
open-ended permit, if I talk to the park superintendent ... which makes
sense. The permit is primarily for people hosting birthday parties or
reunions or geocaching events during the day, where they will use the
picnic pavillion, etc. Amateur astronomers are much lower
maintenance. We kinda sneak in and leave in the dark of night!

Now Allen did mention something about meeting for observing this weekend
... so if he goes, there would be no problem.

But of course, there are other sites as well. The Currins' farm might
be SOGGY right now. Once before, we were thinking about going there in
the winter, just after snows melted (not counting the rain we've had
recently) and they warned us that the field would not support the weight
of the cars. So we should check with them if we are considering going
up there.

So I'm better suited to Saturday night myself ... but that should in NO
WAY stop people from observing on Thursday, if you can!
