Just a friendly reminder that this Saturday is the Telescope Tune Up Clinic at the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center. If you have not already done so, please RSPV with the information requested below so we may ensure we have enough volunteers on hand to have a successful event.
As noted, the clinic will begin at 4:00pm so please arrive 10 to 15 minutes early so that you have enough time to bring in your equipment, sign in, and get situated. An observing session will follow the event at 7:45pm (sun sets at 7:22pm) assuming the weather cooperates.
Directions to the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center can be found via their web site, by clicking >> here .
Please note that the parking lot in front of Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is a gated-lot owned by UNC-Chapel Hill, not by the Planetarium. I believe the cost to park in the gated lot is $1.25 per hour. The metered spots on Franklin Street are free nights and Sundays.

During Astronomy Days at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences you registered for a Telescope Tune Up Clinic and noted your preference of the March clinic at the Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill. Due to a conflict, we had to reschedule the clinic to Saturday March 14th . The clinic will begin at the Morehead Planetarium at 4: 0 0pm and last until approximately 6 : 3 0pm. Attendees should arrive 10 to 15 minutes early in order to sign in, get situated, etc. so we can begin promptly at 4: 0 0pm. Please note that we will be having short observing session in front of the Planetarium beginning around 7:45pm (after sunset) to practice what we have learned in the clinic
RESPONSE REQU ESTED :
The response to the clinic was greater than we had expected therefore we ask you to please respond to this email with the following information below by Saturday March 7 th . We will need a good estimate of the number of attendees so we can secure enough volunteers.

2.) How many persons in your group:*
3.) The type of telescope & mount you have (type, manufacture, model number, etc.):
4.) Your experience level:
5.) What 2 things do you want to get out of this clinic:
* - Children are more than welcome to attend especially if they will be a primary user of the telescope. However as the clinic will last several hours and an optional observing session will follow, please use your best judgment when deciding to bring younger children.
AGENDA:
We will be covering the following topics in the clinic:
- Telescope Basics
- Types of Telescopes
- Proper Set up of Your Telescope
- Equipment Trouble Spots
- Proper Care & Maintenance
- What You Need to Know to Have a Good Observing Session
As noted above, a fter the clinic we'll will move outside to practice what we have learned (assuming the weather cooperates). A low in the horizon Venus may be visible but we should still get some good views of the Great Orion Nebula , the Pleiades (the 7 Sisters) and maybe a galaxy or two .
ITEMS TO BRING WITH YOU:
For the clinic, please bring with you the following items:

| - Finder
| - Eyepieces
| - Any alignment tools (collimation laser, etc.) you may have
| - Tools for adjustment (allen wrenches, screwdriver, pliers, etc.) **
| - Pen/Pencil

- Red Flashlight (for the observing session afterwards)
* * Please ensure you have the right size tool for adjusting any bolts, we will not have enough tools on hand for everyone.
