[Chaos-l] Galileo update

OK, I know that everybody thinks that I spend every waking hour thinking
about astronomy (when I'm not thinking about the Carolina Hurricanes!).  I
mean, that's what everyone on the CHAOS listserve does, am I right?  Well, I
was taking a break looking at some light medical literature and I came
across the following:  "With the early invention of an open thermometer by
Galileo in the late 1500s, efforts began to adapt the invention for use to
measure the temperature of the human body."  I know it's the International
Year of Astronomy, but let's give Galileo a little credit for being a
Renaissance man like Leonardo!  Walter
