We did observe M51 last night at the East Coast Star Party. The skies
were not the best as far as transparency....but Kent Blackwell, the
event organizer and I did look at it and compare using Megastar and a
book for which I can't remember the name. In the end, Megastar looked
like there were a couple of targets that could be that star that you
and I saw Robert, however, looking at a couple of printed sources
there didn't seem to be anything that bright. In the end, frustrating
for us because it still was not conclusive either way.
If you get this out there in the ocean Robert, I hope you folks have a
enjoyable and safe trip.....and hopefully you did pack your binoculars!
East Coast Star Party was a success, with some very nice observing
both nights. The seeing was exceptional especially Saturday night and
Saturn and M5 kicked major butt. allen
