Thanks, Jaime.
Also, I thought it was neat that a park ranger joined us for the evening. What progress!
Even though I kept my smallish scope on the moon, there were so many happy gasps, ... it was glorious. A central peak was clearly visible in a crater near the light/dark boundary (maybe Theophilus?) Lots of folks could see that and were much jazzed. Also, the Sea of Tranquility was just on the boundary and, with this the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11, that dazzled folks as well. (some jokes about being able to see the flag.)
Thanks again.
Mike Gallagher

Subject: [Chaos-l] Saturday's Morehead observing session
The Saturday observing session with Morehead was huge. There was a couple of hundred people there ready and eager to observe the skies.
We had about 7 telescopes with amateurs astronomers from CHAOS, RAC and a couple of non club members. Telescopes ranged in size from a 6" dob to a 24" truss tube dob brought by Pierre of the RAC club. Mike Gallagher had his Orion 120 refractor there as well.
I arrived about 15 minutes before the official observing session start time and there were lines already forming. It was amazing. Even though a thin cloud layer obstructed our view a little, the Moon and Saturn were the primary objects to observe. It wasn't until many of the observers headed home that I was able to show folks Alberio and the Ring Nebula. The crowd just wouldn't let us get off of Saturn.
The whole evening was just great fun. Thanks to everyone who came out and to Morehead for allowing us to join them.
Clear skies!
