Hello astronomer friends,
This next week is going to be a busy one. Clear skies, please.

With the Perseid meteor shower on Wednesday, August 12, we're going to
have an observing session at Ebenezer Church Recreation Area at Jordan
Lake AND we're going to have a Paddling Under the Stars at Farrington
Point. We would love to have CHAOS members at both viewings.

The night before (Tuesday, August 11) will be, I believe, a regularly
scheduled CHAOS meeting. We'll be hearing more about that, I'm sure.
That same night, 50-60 Hillsborough Cub Scouts are coming to Morehead to
complete requirements for a belt loop and/or pin. We'll be looking
through telescopes and binoculars before dark, then a planetarium
program, and come back out to view again after dark. This should start
about 7:30 and go until 9 or later. If any of you can make that later
session (maybe 8:30 or so) please let me know.

Last thing - I have just scheduled a fall observing session at Little
River Regional Park for Friday, October 24, from 7 - 9. If we cancel for
weather we will try again on Friday, November 13, at the same time.
Get that one on your calendars now. The Little River folks are always
thrilled to have us and the skies there are pretty dark - although too
often cloudy. We're working on that.

Mickey

BTW - Did you know that Mars is going to be the size of the full Moon on
August 27?
How often have you been asked about this one this year?
