Jeff,
I think you'll find that many people are more than happy to share their views,
especially when there are young astronomers around! I for one really enjoy
sharing
Having been to MASP only once (2008), I offer these observations:
- The crowd gets larger as the week goes on. If you want a little more space,
and if you want to setup with other CHAOS folks, it would be easier to come
earlier in the week. If you want to see tons of scopes and people, come
later.
- An interesting point for your daughter may also be that the bathrooms get
progressively less inviting as the week goes on.
- All of the vendors may not be setup until later in the week, so if you're
interested in doing some browsing, you may want to come later.
- Last year it got quite cold. I think we were at least flirting with freezing
each night. Dress warmly, have water-proof footwear, and bring dew prevention
for your scope if you have any.
- As Robert mentioned, everyone is very well-behaved, and there is a serious
community-outreach component. Evenings are quite tranquil, with the loudest
noise being the cows mooing across the street.
Stay in touch about which days you choose, and we'll try to keep some space
for you in our vicinity.
