Happy New Year everyone!
Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot we're in the south.
Happy New Year Y'all!
Next Tuesday January 12th, is the monthly CHAOS meeting. Our very own Robert Nielsen is our speaker this month.
Here is what Robert's topic is all about.
THE PERFECT OBSERVING SITE
You might not know it, but North Carolina has some of the best areas for
astronomical observing on the east coast of the United States. We have
a well-known star party. We have numerous university observatories and
a world-renowned planetarium. Why not capitalize on this and promote
amateur astronomy at the next level? What would it take to create *the
perfect observing location* that would serve the members of CHAOS and
other clubs, and bring visitors from surrounding states to join us?
Robert will discuss the different factors that would be involved in
creating such a site, and explain based on his experience why existing
sites aren't "perfect". So much is involved, from raising funds to
influencing governments to raising awareness and technical aspects of
astronomy that we look forward to including everyone in the discussion,
even non-astronomers.
Come and join in on the discussion. The meeting begins at 7pm.
Let's hope that 2010 gives us clearer drier skies,
Jayme Hanzak
