Dear CHAOS,
I am the parent organizer of the Science and Technology Night at Scroggs Elementary School of Chapel Hill which will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2010 from 6-8pm. We would love to have members of the Chapel Hill Astronomical and Observational Society take part at this event.
The program is divided into of two parts. The first hour consists of community/parent-sponsored hands-on demonstrations at various booths focusing on scientific and technological wonders encountered in a specific field. Students go from booth to booth where they learn about a topic and/or work out special puzzles/problems. We would greatly appreciate it if your organization would volunteer to set up a display booth to educate our students about astronomy. The format and content of the presentation will be entirely up to you.
During the second hour there are teacher-led classroom presentations. Our audience is mainly pre-school to 5th grade students and their families. We generally get 400-500 visitors.
Some time ago I took my children for a CHAOS-sponsored observation at Jordan Lake. My kids were amazed by your equipment and presentation. I was impressed by the patience and generosity of your members. Thats why I thought CHAOS would be perfect for our Science Night. I know our students will be thrilled and greatly benefit from your participation. If you are interested or want more information please let me know.
Best wishes,
Krishna Herfarth
