Well the past weekend was a very active weekend as seen through the end of a telescope. Thursday we showed the stars to students and parents of Efland Cheeks Elementary school. There were 87 families signed up for the event and all had a great time. I was only able to show two objects the entire time, Mars and the Moon. Tony Rice, Robert Neilsen and Richard McColman had scopes set up and showing other objects.

Little River Park in North Durham had about 75 folks show up. This was the second clear night in a row for Little River. Mike Lemon, the Morehead gang and a couple from Oxford had their hands full showing the wonders of the universe to eager crowd. We also watched as the ISS came over the horizon and faded into the Earths shadow. For most of the folks there, this was their first time to see the space station.

Finally,  Morehead's Jordan Lake Observing session was well attended as well. One hundred plus folks came out to look at Venus, Mars, the Moon and Saturn. Even the ISS showed up and got a standing ovation. The crowd applauded as it faded out of site. Again, for many, this was their first experience viewing the ISS . Mike Gallagher and Tony Rice were there from CHAOS. I'm not sure whom else was there. Several folks from the Raleigh club were there as well. All I know was, I pulled into the parking lot, setup the telescope, put in an eyepiece and focused the Moon, turned around and there was a line.

I love showing the masses things that make you wonder.

What a great weekend.
