The Ingram Planetarium near the NC/SC border might have some
suggestions, it's about an hour from Wilmington. The closest astronomy
club I'm finding is the Sandhills Astronomical Society.
http://sandhillsastronomicalsociety.org not much more than an hour
away.
Someone in the Physics department at UNCW might have some suggestions
as well: http://www.uncw.edu/phy
You might also suggest this person take a road trip to Durham for
Astronomy Day and the telescope clinic the RAC folks are helping out
with there. It might just need to be collimated.
