Hi Folks,

First, I want to thank Mike for the really cool info about Jupiter missing a
belt. He better get suspenders ...

Here is Alice's What's up for May, if you would like a MS Word version, let
me know and I will email it to you.. Thanks again to Alice for doing this,
I am just transcribing. Any mistakes are certainly mine.

Clear Skies,

Things to see

*Leo* is flanked by Mars and Saturn and makes a nice naked eye view.

NGC 2903 a bright barred spiral galaxy near the tip of the sickle. It is
also near Mars

M95, M96 and M105 galaxies in the middle of the body (about half way between
Regulus and Iota Leonis

M65, M66 and NGC 3628 Leo triplet galaxies near the hind legs of Leo, close
to Chort .

Rho Leonis – variable star approaching maximum in July, west of Regulus.

*Coma Berenices*

M53 – Globular cluster east of Alpha Comae (Diadem)

M64 – ‘Black Eye’ Galaxy

NGC 4565 – ‘Needle’ galaxy

*Canes Venatici*

M51 - Whirlpool galaxy, I always try to find this from the end of the Big
Dipper (Alkaid)

M63 – Sunflower galaxy

M94 – another galaxy

*Virgo*

M104 – Sombrero galaxy

R Virginis approaches maximum this month and is near … M60- another galaxy

*Ursa Major*

M81 and M82 – Bode’s galaxy and the Cigar galaxy. A nice pair that can be
seen at the same time. If you follow the cup of the Big Dipper as it points
to Polaris, these 2 are about one third the way and a little west of the
line between Polaris and Dubhe

R Ursa Majoris is just past its maximum and is near to VY UM, a carbon star
