I am very happy to report that my 22 month-old grandson saw his first meteor this morning.
We were out just after 6 am, very bundled up and admiring Venus, when a long meteor streaked down the sky to the left (westward) of that bright planet. His eyes got very wide as he continued to stare where the meteor had been. I said "meteor" and he repeated in a voice filled with awe "me-or." Proud Grandma.
I was out about 5 am and saw half a dozen meteors in about 15 minutes. About the same at 6 am.

Well, I was out for some portion of the time between 11:00 and 12:30 last night, and saw 22 meteors from my front yard ... so I think that means I was seeing close to 20/hour. Most of them were just fast, quick burnouts. But I saw 4 that were brighter and spanned a bit of the sky (about the distance between Betelgeuse and Rigel). Considering how many trees I have in my yard, I bet you could have seen more than that in a clear field.
